Job Description:

The Manager, IT provides leadership, planning, prioritization, scheduling and effective implementation for agreed IT initiatives on roadmap as well as network support and enhancements. Sets high standards for sound design and delivery. Sets a sustainable work pace for the team. Generates estimates for work and collaborates on priorities. Facilitates the end-to-end delivery of prioritized projects and problem remediation in conjunction with project management and support management. Works with upper IT management and other business units to create solutions to enable the business, keep equipment current, and provide long term solutions. Collaborates closely with the Project Management Office and is accountable for creating and maintaining the budget and overseeing the timeline. Removes impediments for the team, and ensures the team has the correct skill sets to execute against priorities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Program & Project Delivery: Provides thought leadership on IT solutions to deliver new capabilities for business benefits
  • Provides support and guidance as required, in line with individuals’ abilities
  • Ensures team tailors, complies with, and demonstrates a sound knowledge of processes and procedures to ensure projects are well designed and compliant
  • Provides ongoing communication to IT executives and stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Coordinates required cross-functional teams (e.g. SSO, PMO, Security, etc.)
  • Portfolio Planning and Project Initiation: Ensures the defining, prioritizing, and initiating technology projects for all network areas including but not limited to LAN, SAN, WAN, wireless, collaboration, cloud, and security
  • Takes responsibility for the definition, documentation, and successful completion of enhancements and problem remediation
  • Acts as a point of contact and facilitates access to subject matter experts in different technology towers
  • Conducts design reviews, execution plans, and quality assurance testing and acts as the gatekeeper of high quality delivery. Ensures new designs are robust, resilient, redundant, can support future growth, and keep with industry best practices
  • Collaborates with the PMO to ensure scope, budget, timeline, risks, and issues are monitored and controlled throughout the project
  • Monitor and control resource, revenue, expenses, and capital costs against the project budget and manage expectations of all project stakeholders
  • Works with 3rd party vendors and manufacturers for equipment purchases, resource augmentation, SMEs, and project delivery
  • Provides escalation for production outages including phone and onsite support as required
  • Responsible for the assignment of internal and external project resources
  • Coordinates and manages small projects, enhancements, and problem remediation
  • Performs capital budgeting for future fiscal year spends around hardware/software EOL management, new network initiatives, business projects, etc.
  • Communicates to senior management on technical, Shared Services, and 3rd-party issues
  • Sets performance targets, and monitors progress against agreed quality and performance criteria. Performs employee reviews and performance improvement plans (if required).
  • Advises individuals on career paths and encourages pro-active development of skills and capabilities
  • Collaborates with the PMO to effectively schedule available resource capacity against project demand and to provide meaningful project start and milestone dates
  • Completes administrative tasks such as time, invoices, and user access approval
  • Collaborates with the business teams to develop relevant business cases
  • People Management: Leads, coaches, and manages direct reports. Responsible for a team of network engineers, senior level engineers, and architects.
  • Provide definition and planning level estimates for approved projects
  • Relationship Management: Builds effective relationships between IT, business users, and internal/external service providers
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure project meets performance standards, complies with security and architecture requirements, and adheres to SOX/PCI standards
  • Ensure proper project closure with support documentation, sign-offs, completed final expense vs budget, and turn over to the operations teams
  • Works with Telecom providers on solutions, roll outs, contracted pricing, outages, enhancements, etc.
  • Collaborates with the PMO for the definition, documentation and successful completion of complex projects
  • Reviews and monitors resource work load

Job Requirements:

  • Network certifications are a plus (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc)
  • Technologies: Network, Security, and Data Center
  • Network technologies: LAN, WAN, wireless, load balancing, data center, HA
  • Security technologies: Firewalls, IDS/IPS, DLP, NAC, VPN, Encryption, AAA
  • Trouble tickets software familiarity

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in managing and leading an IT team, developing and managing operational and project related budgets
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems
  • Incident management experience
  • Retail industry experience and SOX/PCI compliance experience
  • Experience managing IT projects and project teams utilizing industry standard methodologies
  • 10+ years experience with development and delivery of network solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Management, Computer Science or related field strongly preferred
