Job Description:

Sr. Director of Engineering to lead and mentor the Adv Technology Mechanical Systems team. The successful leader will lead a team of professionals in imagining, inventing, developing, engineering, and manufacturing support of Adv Technology mechanical products. These products include propulsion engines, auxiliary power units, electric motors and generators, heat exchangers, actuators, environmental control systems, materials, coating and more across all of Honeywell Aerospace.

This position will work closely with Strategic Marketing and business leaders from Engines and Mechanical Products businesses as well has a strong working relationship with Manufacturing Engineering and Integrated Supply Chain on introduction of new production methods and additive manufacturing. Key activities include leading Advanced Technology projects to TRL6, Technology Road mapping, providing subject matter experts for Manufacturing and Product Support, driving collaboration across Aerospace, aligning resources through managers and team leads, mentoring newer talent, and conducting technology sales to external customers, including various government agencies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expansion of our innovation culture through a higher level of open innovation
  • Creation of strategic plans for tech areas where we have gaps today, and in consideration of competitor positions
  • Lead Adv Technology programs for Propulsion Turbine Engines, APU, Air and Thermal, Mechanical Components, and Brakes for technology strategy and investment plans with inputs from Strategic Marketing, fellows, COE’s, businesses, and customers
  • Pursue and secure external funding for research projects which align to internal strategic plans and needs
  • Must develop strong working relationships with key VP level stakeholders across Aerospace: Engines and Mechanical Components business leaders, Strategic and Industry Marketing, Engineering COEs, as customers of the technology planning process in order to carry out the responsibilities
  • Direct responsibility for strategy, pursuits, proposals, relationship building and significant annual sales results of external funding for technology aligned with overall Honeywell technology needs
  • Alignment of new technologies of mechanical product development programs using the Z21, TRA and IPDS methodology
  • Manage simultaneously approximately 50 programs with a large amount of internal and external funding. Technology development programs including requirements, contracts, charters, statement of work, schedule, cost, technical deliverables, programmatic deliverables, resources and risk management
  • Integration of key planning processes for the Advanced Technology organization, including Strategic Plan, Annual Operating Plan, and research project prioritization, including broader Fellow and Chief input
  • Direct generation and maintenance of 20+ year strategic plans and annual operating plans for technology supporting mechanical product lines
  • Successful execution of Strategic Plan and annual Corporate Roadmap Review with full alignment to Marketing & Product Management business plans across Honeywell Aerospace
  • Must maintain trust and respect of Corporate Technology Functions
  • Driving Advanced Technology Strategic Plan for all mechanical products to ensure a strong linkage with Business Strategic Plan, product business plans, and development funding for the next 20 years
  • Program tracking and reporting using scheduling, reporting and financial management tools as appropriate

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Advanced business or technical degree
  • Knowledge and experience in turbine engine technologies ranging from aerodynamics, materials (low and high temperature), manufacturing, thermodynamics, controls, additive manufacturing, and accessories
  • Program management knowledge including earned value reporting, and experience with computer-based scheduling and reporting tools
  • Experience with government organizations in the pursuit of large externally funded programs
  • Demonstrated performance in executing multiple complex projects in a team environment to meet program cost, schedule and technical targets
  • Building and leading an effective, high performing cross-functional team
  • Successful project management methodology ensuring IPDS adherence
  • Ownership for developing technology roadmap strategies for discriminator technologies aligned with product roadmaps
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
  • Strategic thinking related to how technology strategies can deliver on business results and align with custom
